Chicago Public Library announces Women's History Month events

The Chicago Public Library (CPL) is set to commemorate Women's History Month with a series of events throughout March. The events are designed to celebrate the contributions of women in various fields, including literacy, education, and performing arts.

Among the highlighted events is "Simone Biles presented by Mudlark Theater and You," scheduled for March 6th at Rogers Park. This event aims to honor Simone Biles' achievements through storytelling and theater games. It targets children aged 6 to 13 and does not require prior performance experience.

On March 8th, Bezazian will host "Musical Story and Instrument Petting Zoo with Musette Strings." This event celebrates women's achievements in music with performances from a string quartet. Children will have the chance to interact with string instruments.

"Trailblazing Women in Dance with Movement Revolution Dance Crew" will take place on March 11th at Legler Regional. The session includes performances and workshops focused on iconic dance forms like Waacking, open to tweens and teens aged 10 to 19.

Impact Chicago will present a "Personal Safety Tools Workshop" on March 11th at North Pulaski. This workshop introduces Empowerment Self-Defense techniques, focusing on safety principles applicable in various situations.

On March 16th, Amy Wurtz will perform at Harold Washington Library as part of the "Women of New York" event. Wurtz is known for her work as a composer and performer advocating new music.

Sulzer Regional Library will host "Women in Trades: Empowering the Future" on March 22nd. This tabling event highlights career opportunities for women in trades, featuring industry experts.

The CPL also offers interactive music classes titled "Chicago Mini Musicians," held across different locations throughout March for children aged 2 to 4.

Additional activities include arts and crafts sessions such as junk journaling, clay carving workshops, book clubs discussing short stories and graphic novels, film screenings featuring works like "She Said (2023)" and documentaries about influential women like Frida Kahlo.

Recommended reading lists for all ages are also available as part of Women's History Month celebrations at CPL.
