The United Church of Christ (UCC) is commemorating Womxn’s History Month with a series of events and initiatives throughout March and beyond. The celebration commenced on March 4 with a webinar titled “Womxn Are Here: Inspiring Generations Onward,” which featured voices from across the UCC sharing stories that inspire hope and call for justice.

“We kicked off Womxn’s History Month by uplifting the voices of womxn in a living-room style dialogue called, Womxn Are Here,” said Rachael Ward, Gender & Sexuality minister and manager. “Working collaboratively is not only how we continue seeking justice, but it’s also how we move love onward toward freedom.”

On March 19, at 10:30 a.m. Eastern, the UCC will partner with the World Council of Churches to host another webinar discussing womxn’s role as peacemakers in armed conflict. Participants from countries including Sudan, Nigeria, Palestine, and Columbia will be represented.

The UCC encourages participation in advocacy work at the United Nations during this month. The UN Commission on the Status of Women runs from March 10 through March 21 and can be viewed online by registering through www.ngocsw.org or watching official events on United Nations Web TV.

“It’s critical that we listen deeply to the voices of womxn across the globe,” Ward emphasized. “Liberation and freedom are not possible without advocates for all bodies in need of safety, care, food and nourishment in the world.”

Ward also urged UCC members to contact Congress to advocate for womxn’s rights this month via the Justice and Peace Action Network (JPAN). The network provides pre-filled scripts and information to facilitate communication with legislators.

Beyond March, additional activities include a workshop series titled “Into the Deep: Womxn 2 Womxn Series” set for April 8, May 13, and June 10. This series leads into General Synod 35 in Kansas City. Registration is open until April 7.

A special note from Ward highlighted that these offerings were created through collaboration within the UCC National Setting Womxn’s Working Table aimed at promoting healing and restorative justice for womxn.

Ward noted that using "womxn" instead of "women" reflects an inclusive approach acknowledging gender diversity beyond traditional binaries.
