The Pension Boards, an affiliated ministry of the United Church of Christ, has announced the appointment of David A. Klassen as its new President and Chief Executive Officer. Klassen steps into the role following the term of Walter Reyes, who served as interim President after former President Brian Bodager stepped down due to health issues. Bodager passed away on February 15, 2025.

Effective March 31, 2025, Klassen's appointment came after a comprehensive national executive search. David A. Klassen had been with the organization since 2011, serving as Chief Investment Officer for both the Pension Boards and United Church Funds. His previous experience includes roles as V.P. and Portfolio Manager at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, as well as Managing Director and Head of Equities at JPMorgan Chase.

“Throughout his 14-year tenure with the Pension Boards, Klassen has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to providing retirement income security to those engaged in the life of the church,” stated the Rev. Dr. Rodney Franklin, Chair, Board of Trustees. Reflecting on Klassen's approach, Franklin added, “He believes in the intersection of faith and finance as both a theological foundation for action and a compassionate goal. This approach aims to empower leaders to provide trusted and valued ministry to future generations."

Klassen's leadership of the Pension Boards has notably focused on sustainable investment, aligning financial strategies with the United Church of Christ’s vision of a "just world for all." Under his oversight, the organization became a signatory to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI).

Expressing his vision for his new role, Klassen stated, “I am of course deeply honored and humbled to assume this role and guide our organization into its next chapter of growth and service.” He emphasized his dedication to integrating faith with financial responsibility, aiming to provide the UCC community with necessary support and resources.

David A. Klassen intends to continue building on the foundation laid by his predecessor, Brian R. Bodager, whose leadership significantly advanced the mission of the Pension Boards.
