The United Church of Christ (UCC) has expressed its condolences in the wake of the death of Pope Francis. On Easter Monday, the UCC released a statement reflecting on the Pope's life and influence within the church and the global community.

The UCC honored Pope Francis for his "ministry of simplicity and example" and commended his courage in addressing emerging issues within the church. His leadership was marked by compassion and inclusivity, promoting a Christianity that made room for all people. "We give God thanks for his ministry and for his life," the statement noted.

Pope Francis, who was the first Bishop of Rome from the Americas and the first Jesuit to lead the Catholic Church, was lauded for his dedication to unity within the church and his efforts to right historical wrongs, particularly towards indigenous and marginalized communities.

The statement also included prayers for those mourning the Pope's passing and the leaders of the Catholic Church, who will guide the community through this period of transition. The UCC expressed hope for a future free from death and sorrow, ending the statement with words of faith and a prayer for strength and healing.
