The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) have commenced their annual free arts festival, RE·VER·BER·ATE, showcasing the talents of over 1,400 students from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade. The event, taking place at the Chicago Cultural Center from today until April 25, offers a variety of exhibitions, performances, workshops, and masterclasses. CPS CEO Pedro Martinez stated, “This festival is an amazing opportunity for the community to interact with and meet the next generation of Chicago artists.”
In collaboration with the Chicago Cultural Center and the Design Museum of Chicago, the festival highlights the integrated efforts of students, teachers, and arts professionals in the city. César Torruella, CPS’s Executive Director of Arts Education, emphasized, “An immense amount of work has happened in the past decade with many important partners to get us here and the RE·VER·BER·ATE Festival is a culminating showcase of everything our talented students have to offer.”
RE·VER·BER·ATE aims to foster youth expression and draw attention to emerging artists, while also celebrating Chicago's cultural scene. The festival is a part of the district's broader vision for enriching student education through increased access to the arts. Details of the district's future plans in arts education will be shared in an upcoming panel discussion at the City Club of Chicago.
Throughout the week, attendees can explore various activities, including an Arts Fair featuring local arts organizations, open jam sessions, and a range of workshops led by professional artists. The closing event includes the All-City Visual Arts Exhibition at the Design Museum of Chicago, with tours led by a member of the Arts Student Voice Committee.
The full schedule of events is available on the RE·VER·BER·ATE website.
