The Chicago Public Library (CPL) is set to host a range of events in honor of Jewish American Heritage Month. The library's programs are designed to appeal to diverse audiences and include a selection of new publications by Jewish authors.
A keynote event will feature Senator Ron Wyden, who will discuss his book "It Takes Chutzpah: How to Fight Fearlessly for Progressive Change." He will be joined by Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker for the conversation, which will take place at the Cindy Pritzker Auditorium within the Harold Washington Library Center on Thursday, May 29, at 6:00 p.m.
Other scheduled events include an author talk with Annie Somer Kaufman about her work "Your Comrade, Avreml Broide," happening on Monday, May 19, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Chicago Authors Room at the Harold Washington Library Center.
Music enthusiasts can attend a Klezmer music concert featuring the Klezmonauts on Saturday, May 17, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Walker Branch and again on Saturday, May 31, during the same time frame at Blackstone Branch.
Film lovers may appreciate a screening of "A Jumpin' Night in the Garden of Eden" on Tuesday, May 27, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at South Shore.
Additionally, an educational session titled "From Bills of Lading to Duolingo: The Story of Yiddish" is scheduled for Thursday, June 12, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Northtown.
The CPL has also curated lists titled "Jewish American Heritage: Recent Highlights for Adults (May 2025)" and "Jewish American Heritage for Kids," available through BiblioCommons.
