The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office is organizing its fifth Missing Persons Day on May 10. This event aims to connect individuals with missing loved ones to necessary resources and experts.
People with friends or family members missing for over a month can file a report, submit DNA samples, medical records, pictures, and other documents to aid in the search. Emotional support services will also be available.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office located at 2121 West Harrison St., Chicago.
In previous years, hundreds of family members and friends attended the event. Notably, six families found closure after last year's Missing Persons Day.
“Our goal is to assist families in locating their loved ones by being a centralized resource for those searching for missing relatives and friends,” stated Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Ponni Arunkumar.
The event is held in collaboration with several organizations including National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Chicago Police Department, Illinois State Police, consulates, and clergy.
