Chris Brown Commissioner | Chicago Public Library

Chicago Public Library is set to celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride Month throughout June, offering a variety of events and activities. The library aims to honor queer life, history, and culture through these initiatives.

Among the featured events is "Law at the Library: LGBTQIA+ and the Law," which includes a presentation by an experienced attorney followed by a question-and-answer session. This event is organized in partnership with the Chicago Bar Association and Evanston Public Library and will be held virtually on May 21 at 6:00 p.m.

Another key event is the "Youth-Led Sexual Health and HIV Workshop" with Lurie Children's Hospital. This workshop is designed for LGBTQ+ teens and will be facilitated by a youth leader alongside a Lurie staff member. It will take place on June 26 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Belmont Branch.

The library also offers Rainbow Grab & Go Kits available at participating branches while supplies last. These kits include items like Rainbow Bead Fidget Keychains, Rainbow Friendship Bracelets, and Pride Flag Suncatchers.

For those interested in personal expression, there are opportunities for gender-affirming haircuts on June 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Belmont Branch, as well as a Gender Euphoria Clothing Swap on June 28 at noon at the Harold Washington Library Center.

Drag Story Time sessions are scheduled across various branches, including bilingual options. These events will occur on June 3, June 9, June 25, and July 5.

Additionally, patrons can pick up coloring pages designed by Chicago artist Ariel Bonilla from any branch during Pride Month.

Reading recommendations for different age groups are also available under categories such as "Pride Month 2025: Books for Adults," "Pride Month 2025: Books for Teens," "Pride Month 2025: Books for Kids," and "Reading with Pride: Recent Highlights for Adults."
