Chicago Printers Guild exhibit opens at Harold Washington Library Center
Chris Brown Commissioner | Chicago Public Library

The Harold Washington Library Center will host a new exhibit titled "All for Print. Print for All. Archiving 16 Years of the Chicago Printers Guild" starting June 2, 2025. The exhibition will be located on the ninth floor and will display original artwork and ephemera from the Chicago Printers Guild Records.

The Chicago Printers Guild was formed in the spring of 2009 when a group of printmakers from across Chicago met at a local bar. According to information from the guild, "the artists' libations quickly turned to action when they collectively agreed to set down their squeegees, step out of their studios and make plans to see more of each other -- all while elevating their art form in the process." This meeting led to the official organization of the guild.

Sixteen years later, the guild continues its mission by uniting local printmakers and enthusiasts through various activities such as lectures, workshops, artist talks, and studio visits throughout Chicagoland. The upcoming exhibition is described as a "first-of-its-kind" event that celebrates this ongoing collaboration with hundreds of original artworks and ephemera selected from the guild's records.
