A recent grant from the Cobb EMC Foundation has enabled Laurel’s Edge, a senior living community in Kennesaw, Georgia, to complete its flooring replacement project. Part of United Church Homes (UCH), Laurel’s Edge has benefited from this support to enhance safety and cleanliness for its residents.

“This grant is a game-changer for Laurel’s Edge,” said Katie Davis, senior area housing manager. “The new flooring creates a safer, cleaner environment for our residents and ensures our community remains a welcoming space for families and volunteers. We’re deeply grateful to the Cobb EMC Foundation for their ongoing support.”

Laurel’s Edge offers affordable housing where residents pay 30% of their adjusted monthly income as rent. The installation of vinyl plank flooring replaces old carpet that posed health and safety issues such as odors and allergens. This change benefits nearly 300 people served annually by making cleaning easier and reducing viral respiratory illness spread.

Resident Dianne Nathaniel expressed satisfaction with the upgrade: “I walk with a walker, and this floor just feels safer,” she said. “The carpeting was so thin, and I would often trip on it. And cleaning is so much easier with the new flooring.”

The project began with an initial $5,000 internal grant program along with contributions from 26 previous Cobb EMC Foundation grants. UCH installed the new flooring in phases as funding allowed, culminating in completing the remaining apartments thanks to a total estimated cost of $75,119 supported by Cobb EMC Foundation's latest contribution.

This improvement not only enhances resident safety but also reduces maintenance costs over time. United Church Homes continues its mission to transform aging through such initiatives at Laurel’s Edge.
