This summer, children and families in Chicago will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) projects across the city from July through September. These programs are organized by different branches of the Chicago Public Library and offer a range of hands-on activities designed to inspire young minds.
At Budlong Woods, children can participate in the "Family Science" and "Create Club" series where they will explore science themes such as space and volcanoes. Activities include upcycling t-shirts into tote bags and playing with stomp rockets.
Edgewater's "Science is Fun" series offers activities like making slime, engaging in tower building challenges, and conducting a milk and cookie floating test.
Gage Park presents the "EnGage in STEAM" series where kids can create projects like Ferris wheels and solar-powered spinning sunflowers. They will also have opportunities to observe ant farms, paint by numbers, design indoor gardens for the branch.
Greater Grand Crossing invites kids to their "Explore STEAM" series for afternoon fun involving planting seeds for a summer reading garden, creating water filters for plant nourishment, and making bird feeders.

The Lozano branch offers an “Electric Classroom” experience focused on static electricity. Participants can create light switches or make pet robots using toothbrush heads.
In South Chicago's “Go Green STEAM” series, participants learn about butterflies and succulent gardening while creating seed bombs among other activities.
Uptown provides opportunities for learning about growing science at its branch garden along with glowing science activities suitable for families.
West Lawn encourages participation in nature drawing sessions alongside designing boats to test flotation and speed capabilities.
Finally, West Town's “Curious Kids Club” teaches beginner birding skills while offering cloud-making experiments in jars and cookie dunking challenges.
