Families in Chicago have the opportunity to participate in summer field trips to the Art Institute of Chicago. Chartered buses will transport families from various library locations across the city directly to the museum.
The field trips include guided, interactive tours led by summer interns. These interns are recent college graduates, many of whom are artists themselves and enjoy working with children. They are eager to share and discuss selected artworks with participating families.
In addition to tours, each trip offers art-making activities at the Ryan Learning Center's private studio. Participants can create watercolor paintings, an activity connected to a similar program at the Artist's Studio at the Library this summer.
Previous participants expressed enthusiasm about their experiences and a desire to explore more of the museum's collections. The Art Institute supports this interest by providing a free guest pass for every family that participates.
Families interested in joining these field trips should sign up soon. They are advised to bring their own refreshments as there are no vending machines available and time constraints prevent leaving the museum for food purchases downtown.
These programs are made possible through a partnership with the Art Institute of Chicago, supported by The Jane Wilson and David Mayhew Stone Charitable Trust.
