Chicago Public Library seeks resident input for strategic plan through citywide survey
Chris Brown Commissioner | Chicago Public Library

Chicago Public Library (CPL) is reaching out to residents with a citywide survey aimed at shaping the library system's future. This initiative is part of CPL's 2026–2030 Strategic and Capital Plan, and it invites both library users and non-users to contribute their thoughts on how the library can best serve the community.

CPL Commissioner Chris Brown stated, “Chicago deserves a library system shaped by the people it serves. This survey is an invitation to every Chicagoan: share what matters, imagine what’s possible, and help guide how our libraries grow to meet the needs of today and rise to meet what’s next. Whether you're a job seeker, a parent, a student, or simply someone who cares about our city, your voice will help shape the next chapter of Chicago’s public libraries—and the future we build together.”

The survey has been open since June 21 and will remain available until the end of July. It aims to inform decisions on investments in spaces, programs, and priorities across CPL's 81 branches. The survey is brief and accessible in multiple languages. CPL encourages all Chicagoans to participate and share this opportunity within their communities.

To assist in spreading awareness about the survey, CPL has provided a digital flyer and social media toolkit for individuals, community groups, elected officials, and civic leaders.
