Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle has announced the introduction of the Cook County Property Tax System Daily Progress Tracker. This new webpage is designed to provide public access to monitor the progress and accountability of Tyler Technologies and the county's property tax offices, which include the Offices of the Cook County Assessor, Board of Review, Clerk, and Treasurer. These entities are working together to implement a new property tax system.
The modernization project aims to fulfill fiduciary responsibilities by efficiently billing, collecting, and distributing over $18 billion in taxes annually for essential services such as schools, libraries, municipalities, and park districts. The initiative is a collaborative effort between Cook County, its elected property tax offices, and Tyler Technologies to replace outdated technology with a unified platform. This platform seeks to streamline property tax data management across agencies and improve the overall experience for residents who have faced challenges due to a fragmented system.
Although nearing completion, this modernization effort has been technically and operationally demanding. Coordination among independently managed offices has posed persistent challenges that have led to delays over time. The Office of the President has played a role in aligning all parties involved in advancing the project but has not influenced decisions on system requirements or approvals.
The newly launched Property Tax System Daily Progress Tracker serves as an important tool for enhancing transparency regarding each stakeholder's roles, responsibilities, and progress. It aims to provide residents, elected officials, and media with clear insights into what work remains and where accountability lies for completing the project.
“Cook County is committed to transparency and accountability, especially when it comes to vital services funded by our property tax system,” stated Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. “This new webpage will allow residents and anyone following the work of the County and its separately elected property tax offices to see daily progress as well as responsibilities, deadlines met and missed and more to help ensure all parties remain focused on bringing this project to the finish line.”
Guidehouse, a third-party consultant contracted by Cook County Government, will manage daily updates on weekdays on this webpage. They will outline roles, responsibilities, timelines, and current status updates for each stakeholder involved in this modernization effort.
Residents are encouraged by Cook County Government to regularly visit www.cookcountyil.gov/propertytaxtracker for ongoing updates about this project's progress.
