The 35th General Synod, held on Friday evening, acknowledged several notable guests. Former moderators of the General Synod were present, including Robert Sandman, Norman Williams, Marvin Morgan, Merlyn Lawrence, and John Krueger.
Additionally, former executive staff leaders from the United Church of Christ (UCC) were recognized. These included Arthur Cribbs, Michael Downs, and Donald Hart. The denomination also honored four former elected officers: James Moos, Linda Jaramillo, Edith Guffey, and John Dorhauer. Yvonne Delk was recognized in absentia due to her recovery from surgery.
The event featured a short video marking the 10th anniversary of full communion between the UCC and the United Church of Canada. Representatives from various ecumenical bodies attended as well. These included The Reformed Church of America and Iglesia Evangelica Unida de Puerto Rico among others.
International guests at the event included Rev. Kudzani SBM Ndebele from South Africa and Rev. George Lungay from the Philippines. Other attendees were Rev. Ute Hedrich from Germany and Rev. Pablo Moreno from Colombia.
Two mission co-workers attending the Synod were also recognized: Fiona Kendall working with Mediterranean Hope in Italy and Elena Huegel with Intercultural Research and Studies Institute (INESIN) in Mexico.
