Global Ministries execs discuss evolving mission work at GS LIVE
Marilyn Pagan-Banks Head Pastor | San Lucas United Church of Christ

On July 13, Rev. Shari Prestemon and Dr. Peter Makari took a break from their schedules at the General Synod in Kansas City to join GS LIVE studios. They discussed the evolving conversation around global ministries.

Prestemon was officially named as UCC’s Associate General Minister and Co-Executive of Global Ministries for the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) on July 14. She shared her experiences in regions like the Middle East and Ukraine, highlighting both challenges and hope found through relationships with international partners.

Makari, with 25 years at Global Ministries, noted that recent months have been particularly tough for peace advocates. He mentioned the increased engagement from local churches in the U.S., who are participating in webinars and inviting team members to discuss actions they can take during these times.

Prestemon urged U.S. congregations working for peace to remember to "use us as a resource."
