Missouri Mid-South Conference announces new progressive faith radio station

Exciting developments took place at General Synod 35, where the Missouri Mid-South Conference (MMSC) announced the launch of KPVF-FM. This progressive faith radio station is based in the St. Louis area and will stream nationwide. The initiative represents over a year of planning and collaboration aimed at promoting justice-centered voices in faith-based media.

The project reflects efforts from MMSC and Cheryl Leanza, UCC Media Justice Ministry Policy Advocate, who helped create legislation for Low-Power FM radio in the early 2000s. "KPVF was born from a sense of call—a true movement of the Spirit," said Rev. Mary Nelson, Transitional Conference Minister for MMSC.

Local congregations such as Kindred UCC and St. Paul’s UCC provided crucial early support. The Federal Communications Commission approved the station's antenna installation on St. Paul’s UCC steeple in Oakville to maximize signal coverage.

Sonya J. Vann, a nonprofit consultant and Kindred UCC member, will oversee the startup as General Manager. KPVF-FM plans to launch digitally in winter 2025 with full FM broadcasting by summer 2026.
