The General Synod 35 concluded with a vibrant closing worship service, highlighting spirit, art, and community. Attendees experienced a powerful blend of music and movement as the choir led contemporary and traditional hymns. Quixotic’s Silk Poi Dancers added to the visual spectacle with their performance.

Rev. Tony Coleman, senior pastor of First Congregational Church in Memphis, Tennessee, delivered the final sermon. He spoke on transformation, ecology, and faith using poetic metaphors. Rev. Coleman encouraged attendees to embrace the diversity of native meadows rather than seeking uniformity symbolized by manicured lawns.

“Do radically less,” he urged. “Surrender to a power and wisdom that exceeds your own.” His message resonated deeply with those present, earning him a standing ovation.

The service was organized by Rev. Cheryl Lindsey, who integrated diverse elements into a cohesive worship experience. An offering was collected for the UCC’s “Join the Movement” campaign.
