Monique Parsons President/CEO | Mcgaw YMCA

McGaw YMCA has completed its annual Summer Learning Programs, which ran for six weeks and were offered at no cost to participants. The programs were organized in partnership with Evanston/Skokie District 65 and served students from kindergarten through eighth grade. The initiative aimed to provide full-day experiences focused on academic support, enrichment, and personal development.

Elementary students participating in the Summer Learning Program (SLP) engaged in activities designed to improve literacy and math skills. Middle school students attended the MetaMedia Summer Experience (MSX), where they explored STEAM topics using a curriculum that emphasized cultural relevance and intergenerational learning.

The end of the programs was marked by events celebrating student achievements. SLP concluded with a family gathering that included food and games, recognizing student creativity and progress over the summer.

The MSX program ended with a Storytelling Festival. This event highlighted collaborative projects involving middle schoolers, emerging educators, and professionals in related fields.

"Both programs recently concluded with inspiring culmination events that brought together youth, families, and program staff to celebrate a summer of learning and growth."

"SLP wrapped up with a festive family celebration featuring food, games, and fun. It was a great way to highlight the creativity and progress students made throughout the summer."

"MSX concluded with the Storytelling Festival, a showcase of exploration, identity, and creativity. This powerful event highlighted the collaborative work of middle schoolers, emerging educators, and field experts in a shared learning journey."
