Free GED and ESL courses offered at multiple Chicago Public Libraries

City Colleges and the University of Illinois at Chicago's Center for Literacy will offer free GED/HiSET and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at several public libraries this fall. The classes are available to Illinois residents aged 18 and older, with younger students ages 16 and 17 eligible if they provide a high school separation form. Once registered for City College classes, participants can access college resources.

Thurgood Marshall Library is scheduled to host two information sessions about upcoming GED classes provided by Kennedy King College. The first session will take place on Monday, August 11 at 5:00 p.m., followed by another on Thursday, August 21 at 11:00 a.m. Classes are tentatively planned for Thursday and Friday afternoons. Final dates and times will be confirmed later.

McKinley Park Library will hold registration for ESL classes offered by Daley College on Saturday, August 16 at 9:00 a.m., with placement testing set for Saturday, August 23 at the same time. Registration and placement tests are also available directly through Daley College. Classes are expected to begin in early to mid-September.

Archer Heights Library is also offering ESL class registration with Daley College on Saturday, September 20 at 9:00 a.m., followed by placement testing on Saturday, September 27 at the same time. These classes are tentatively scheduled to start on Saturday mornings in early October.

Legler Library plans to host ESL classes through Malcolm X College this fall; further details will be announced when confirmed.

Back of the Yards Library is set to hold GED classes from UIC's Center for Literacy later this year, with more information forthcoming.

Little Village Library will also host UIC's GED courses.

Harold Washington Library Center is again offering UIC's GED classes this fall. Interested individuals can register or learn more during an event scheduled for September 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Updates regarding additional dates and class offerings will be posted as they become available. Community members are encouraged to check back regularly or visit their local library branch for more information about these educational opportunities or other nonprofit-led ESL programs.
