Cook County seeks storm damage reports after August flooding
Toni Preckwinkle County Board President | Cook County Government

The Cook County Department of Emergency Management and Regional Security (EMRS) is asking residents affected by severe storms and flash flooding between August 16 and August 19, 2025, to submit a damage assessment survey. The deadline for submissions is Friday, August 22, 2025, at 5 p.m.

According to the department, EMRS is working with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) to collect more information on the impact of the storms. This data will be used to determine if Cook County, together with the City of Chicago and nearby counties, can seek additional assistance for residents.

"The objective of this survey is to help state and local emergency management officials across Illinois identify and gain an understanding of damages that have occurred during recent natural disaster activity. Reporting damages to emergency management is voluntary. It is not a substitute for reporting damage to your insurance agency and does not guarantee disaster relief assistance," EMRS stated.

Residents can access the survey at cookgov.me/august2025storms or by scanning a provided QR code. Both English and Spanish versions are available, with language selection in the top left corner of both mobile and web browser formats.

Cook County continues to work with suburban municipalities, Chicago officials, and state agencies to review storm damage reports and pursue possible support for those affected.
