Belmont Village Senior Living marked National Senior Citizens Day by highlighting the contributions of its residents across 35 communities nationwide. The organization emphasized the important role older adults play in giving back, connecting with others, and demonstrating purposeful aging through various philanthropic activities.
“National Senior Citizens Day is more than a celebration, it’s a reminder of the profound contributions older adults make every day,” said Patricia Will, Founder & CEO of Belmont Village Senior Living. “At Belmont Village, we see firsthand how our residents continue to inspire, lead, and give back in ways that enrich our communities. Whether through mentorship, volunteerism, or creative expression, their voices and actions make a lasting impact. This day is an opportunity for all of us to recognize the invaluable wisdom, resilience, and spirit that older adults bring to our world.”
Recent data shows that senior citizens are significant contributors to volunteer efforts in the United States. In 2021, individuals aged 65 and over accounted for nearly 29% of all volunteer hours nationally—a notable increase from previous years. Baby Boomers are particularly active in community service alongside Generation X. Research has also found that volunteering can benefit seniors’ physical and mental health.
Belmont Village supports these findings by encouraging resident engagement through programs such as Belmont Blooms. The initiative promotes sustainability and social responsibility via activities like farm-to-table dining events and upcycling projects. The program received recognition with the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award.
This year’s focus was on partnerships with local nonprofits and celebrating resident volunteerism through creative film projects inspired by international film festivals. Residents participated in producing short films about their charitable work which were then showcased at special screening events featuring awards and fundraising opportunities.
These initiatives not only recognized individual achievements but also aimed to strengthen connections within local communities while raising awareness about the ongoing impact of older adults.
