Chicago Public Library launches free fall writing workshops for adults
Chris Brown, Commissioner, CPL (Chicago Public Library), City of Chicago | Chicago Public Library Humboldt Park Branch

Chicago Public Library is launching a new series of free writing workshops for adults this fall. The initiative, in partnership with Story Studio Chicago, features sessions led by local authors, poets, and teachers from the city’s literary community.

The workshops are designed for both beginners and experienced writers seeking inspiration. Topics will range from character development and flash fiction to micro memoirs and the use of tarot cards as creative prompts.

Scheduled events include “Character Development” on September 13 at Portage-Cragin Branch with Caroline Fleischer; “Writing the Senses” on September 17 at West Pullman Branch with JP Solheim; “Memory & Imagination” on September 27 at Richard J. Daley – Bridgeport Branch with Anca Szilágyi; and several others through November at various library branches across Chicago.

A culminating event, Write at CPL Celebration, will take place on December 1 at Harold Washington Library Center. The celebration offers an opportunity for participants to share their work, connect with other writers, receive editing advice, learn about publishing options, and recognize what they have created during the fall.

“All events are free and open to all adults, no prior experience needed. Due to limited space, registration is required.”
