The Chicago Public Library has announced that the 2025 selection for its One Book, One Chicago program is "Olga Dies Dreaming" by Xochitl Gonzalez. The citywide reading initiative will run from September through November, encouraging residents to read and discuss the novel together.
Programming tied to the book will include a variety of events across Chicago. Among the highlights are an appearance by author Xochitl Gonzalez on Thursday, November 20, and a Silent Reading Soiree scheduled for September 24. Other activities include book clubs, discussion groups, art workshops, musical performances, writing workshops, game nights, and neighborhood tours.
Community members can also attend film screenings such as a viewing of the WTTW documentary "Young Lords of Lincoln Park," along with Community Cinema events featuring films related to themes from this year's book. A panel discussion on housing justice and cultural belonging will feature speakers including Casey Holtschneider (founder of the LYTE Collective), Gaylon Alcaraz (NEIU professor of Justice Studies), and Dr. Lisa Yun Lee (Executive Director from National Public Housing Museum).
Additional programming is planned in partnership with organizations such as the Art Institute of Chicago, American Writers Museum, DePaul University, Harold Washington College, National Public Housing Museum, Northeastern Illinois University and others.
