Baby Safety Month promotes injury prevention for infants through education
José R. Sánchez, President and CEO | Humboldt Park Community Health Center

Every September, Baby Safety Month highlights the importance of protecting infants from preventable injuries. The awareness campaign, established by the Baby Safety Alliance in 1983, aims to provide families and communities with knowledge and resources to keep newborns safe.

The period of infancy is marked by rapid development but also increased vulnerability. During this time, children are at higher risk for injuries that can often be avoided with proper precautions.

Baby Safety Month extends beyond individual households. Organizations such as the Baby Safety Alliance and Safe Kids Worldwide offer guidance and educational materials to parents, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. Aunt Martha’s participates in these efforts by providing well-baby check-ups, car seat safety inspections, and workshops focused on infant CPR and general safety practices.

"Every parent wants to keep their child safe. Baby Safety Month is the perfect reminder that prevention is powerful, and small changes can save lives," a spokesperson said.

The annual observance encourages families to review safety measures in their homes and seek out community resources designed to support child wellbeing.
