Chicago Public Library has launched Court Access Library Centers at several of its branches in partnership with the Illinois State Library and the Chicago Bar Foundation. The centers are now available at Harold Washington Library Center, Sulzer Regional Library, Legler Regional Library, and Woodson Regional Library.
These centers are designed to help residents who do not have legal representation participate in remote court hearings. The library provides space and equipment for individuals to appear in court virtually.
According to the library, staff can assist by providing general legal information, helping users access remote court appearances, connecting them to referrals, identifying appropriate court forms, and instructing on how to electronically file court documents. However, staff cannot give legal advice, offer opinions, or represent anyone in court.
For more information about the program or specific services offered at each location, residents are encouraged to contact Harold Washington Library Center, Legler Regional Library, Sulzer Regional Library, or Woodson Regional Library.
