Art exhibit explores history and technology at Harold Washington Library
Andrew Boynton Artist | Official Website

A new art exhibition titled "Devouring Time Swallow Us Whole" will open on October 12, 2025, at the Harold Washington Library Center. The exhibit, located on the library’s eighth floor, features speculative photography by Andrew Boynton and is part of the 2025-2026 Eighth Floor Call for Artists cycle.

Boynton’s work explores themes of historical recreation and contemporary division. His interdisciplinary approach draws from medieval history and mythology to create images where elements from different eras intersect. The exhibition includes scenes in which peasants encounter technological threats, knights carry symbols of surveillance, and lasers appear in traditional landscapes.

Andrew Boynton has previously exhibited at MANA Contemporary and Epiphany Center for the Arts. His work is included in several private and public collections such as the Joan Flasch Artist Book Collection. In 2022, he received Chicago’s Luminarts Fellowship. Boynton is based in Chicago and holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute.

The exhibition will run through December 28, 2025.
