Chicago Public Schools (CPS) will participate in the 47th annual Peace Day Chicago event at Richard J. Daley Plaza, with over 1,500 students from 31 schools expected to attend. The event, beginning at 11:30 a.m., is organized by The Peace School, which also serves as a United Nations Peace Messenger organization.
The Peace School focuses on peacebuilding efforts and provides resources and programming to help schools and communities manage conflict and foster understanding. Public figures serve as honorary chairs for the committee, supporting the organization's mission to make peace an active part of daily life both locally and globally.
Dr. Macquline King, Interim CPS Superintendent/CEO, will act as an Honorary Co-Chair for Peace Day Chicago along with elected officials such as members of the United States House of Representatives, Illinois General Assembly, Cook County officials, Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago, and other city leaders.
"I am honored to participate in any event where our District students are seen and heard," said Dr. King. "Their voices are critical to our school communities, especially at a time when there is so much uncertainty. Our students are the District's most important priority, and they are our partners in advocating for safe and peaceful communities."

Hamline Elementary School; Lane Tech College Prep High School; Oscar Mayer Magnet School; Ronald McNair Elementary School; National Teachers Academy; North-Grand High School; Ombudsman Northwest High School; John J. Pershing STEAM Magnet Elementary School; Charles A. Prosser Career Academy High School; George Pullman Elementary School; Richards Career Academy High School; Ruggles Elementary STEAM School; Sabin Dual Language Academy; Schubert Elementary School; S.T.E.M. Magnet Academy; Charles Sumner Math & Science Community Academy; William Howard Taft High School; Talcott Fine Arts & Museum Academy; Henry O. Separately, Arthur A. Libby Elementary in Back of the Yards will conduct a "Peace Walk" on Tuesday morning to mark International Day of Peace. The march aims to highlight the community's wish for safety following incidents where students have lost loved ones due to violence.
