Chicago Public Library invites families with babies for story times and early literacy activities
Chris Brown, Commissioner | Chicago Public Library Humboldt Park Branch

Chicago Public Library encourages families to visit its branches with their babies, highlighting the library as a welcoming space for young children and their caregivers. The library notes that visits are free of charge and flexible in length, accommodating both short and extended stays.

According to the library, "There are lots of ways you and your baby can enjoy your visit to the library. In fact, the library is a perfect outing for your baby because it's free, you can stay as short or long as you want, and your baby is welcome to be as noisy as they need to be!"

The library offers various activities aimed at supporting early literacy development in infants. These include attending baby story time sessions, reading high contrast board books during tummy time, checking out bedtime books, singing songs together, and meeting other families with young children.

Staff emphasize the importance of these experiences: "Support your baby's growing early literacy skills (yes, even your infant!) Get a new high contrast board book to read during tummy time to help support your baby's brain development. Check out a bedtime book."

Caregivers are encouraged to find their local branch and participate in these offerings: "Find your neighborhood Chicago Public Library branch here. We can't wait to see you and your baby!"
