Cook County sets mailing date for second installment property tax bills
Toni Preckwinkle County Board President | Cook County Government

Cook County officials have announced that the second installment property tax bills for Tax Year 2024 are expected to be mailed to property owners on November 14, 2025. The due date for payment is set for December 15, 2025.

Property tax bills in Cook County are sent out twice a year in two installments. The process involves several steps and multiple stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely delivery. Recent changes to the technology supporting the property tax system have affected both procedures and timelines.

Anticipating possible delays, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle introduced a Bridge Loan Program aimed at helping local taxing jurisdictions manage fiscal challenges resulting from late tax bill distribution. The program provides no-interest loans totaling over $20 million to nearly 20 local taxing jurisdictions across the county. These short-term loans were available to qualifying entities such as municipalities, park districts, and schools.

The Office of the President also organizes regular meetings with a working group of property tax stakeholders. This group meets weekly to coordinate resources, develop strategies, and work toward making the system more equitable and efficient for residents and businesses in Cook County.

"Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, who has no statutory role in the administration of the tax bills, initiated a Bridge Loan Program to provide hundreds of millions of dollars in no interest loans to local taxing jurisdictions (LTJs) across Cook County," according to county officials. "The Bridge Loan Program was developed to offset fiscal challenges that local taxing districts may have experienced due to the delay of the tax bills and offered LTJs a lower cost borrowing option."
