Chicago Public Library has released its annual list of recommended books for 2025. The selection, curated by library staff, highlights notable titles for readers of all ages in Chicago and beyond.
The recommendations are divided into categories for adults, teens, and children. For adults, the library provides a Top 10 list along with guides to must-read books across genres such as fiction, fantasy, horror, science fiction, mystery, thriller, romance, nonfiction, biography, and memoir.
Teen readers can find suggestions tailored for high school students. The teen section includes fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, and manga. Teen librarians also share their favorite selections from this year’s list.
For younger readers, the library offers board and picture books aimed at children from birth through third grade. There are also lists of fiction and informational books for both younger (kindergarten through third grade) and older children (third through eighth grade). Additionally, there is a collection of Spanish-language books for young readers.
Past years’ selections remain available for those interested in previous recommendations across adult, teen, and children’s categories.
"Every year, Chicago Public Library staff work hard to evaluate the year’s new books, and today we are proud to present our latest annual recommendations for book lovers in Chicago and beyond. Happy reading!" said the library in its announcement.
