Angel Roan has been named the interim principal at Cameron Magnet School of the Arts. In a message to staff and families, Roan outlined her priorities for the school community and shared details about her background in education.

"I am honored to introduce myself as the new interim principal of Cameron. Throughout my 17 year career, I have been deeply committed to fostering positive school climates where every student feels seen, valued, and empowered to thrive. By building collaborative partnerships with staff, students, and families, I have led initiatives that strengthened school culture, enhanced student engagement, and created environments where respect and high expectations go hand-in-hand. My approach centers on listening first, then working alongside the school community to build systems that nurture both academic excellence and social-emotional well-being."

Roan emphasized her experience in adult coaching and managing school operations. She noted the importance of supporting educators through feedback and professional development to improve student outcomes. "In addition to my passion for culture-building, I bring extensive experience in adult coaching and school operations. I believe that when educators are supported through intentional feedback and professional learning, student outcomes naturally follow. Whether streamlining daily operations to allow teachers more time for instruction or facilitating reflective coaching conversations, I am committed to ensuring that every adult in our building feels equipped and supported to do their best work. Operational excellence, when aligned with a shared instructional vision, is a catalyst for school-wide success."

Looking ahead, Roan described her vision for Cameron Magnet School of the Arts as one focused on curiosity and lifelong learning for both students and adults. She also spoke about maintaining balance between academic rigor and creativity while celebrating progress as well as results.

"As we embark on this new chapter together, my vision for the school is to cultivate a culture of curiosity where we embrace learning as a lifelong journey, for both students and adults. I also believe that balance is essential: balancing academic rigor with creativity, holding high expectations while offering grace, and celebrating both progress and results. I am eager to learn from each of you, to celebrate the rich traditions of our school, and to partner in creating a dynamic and joyful learning environment. Together, we will ensure that every student’s potential is not just recognized but fully realized. I am invested in ensuring every student is prepared to actualize the school’s motto: A Cougar Today, College Tomorrow!"
