Westinghouse High School BAC plans September organizational meeting

The Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC) at Westinghouse High School will hold its organizational meeting on September 16, 2025. The committee is responsible for identifying and addressing academic concerns related to the school’s bilingual education program. Elections for new committee members are scheduled to take place during this meeting.

Westinghouse High School, located in Chicago within Cook County, enrolled 1,238 students in grades 9 through 12 during the 2019-2020 school year, according to data from the Illinois Report Card (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). Of these students, grade 9 had the largest group with 27.1 percent of total enrollment (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/School.aspx?schoolid=150162990250857). Grade 10 accounted for 24.4 percent, grade 11 made up 26.4 percent, and grade 12 represented about a quarter of the student body (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/School.aspx?schoolid=150162990250857).

Demographically, Westinghouse High School’s student population was composed of approximately 48.6 percent Black students, 43.1 percent Hispanic students, 5.7 percent Asian students, and 1.5 percent White students during that same period (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/School.aspx?schoolid=150162990250857).

The BAC meeting aims to involve community input regarding the bilingual education program as well as select new leadership for the upcoming year.
